About the Manufacturer
This multi-billion-dollar Midwest manufacturing organization recently expanded through acquisition, doubling both its IT footprint and revenues. With a large-scale integration underway, the company needed a technology partner capable of executing a seamless IT migration while reducing costs and maintaining business continuity.
Industry: Manufacturing
The Challenge: Doubling Data Footprint and Cutting Costs
Following the acquisition, the manufacturer faced some big challenges:
- Costly Transition Services Agreement (TSA) – The company inherited a 24-month TSA from the acquired company’s data center, creating significant monthly fees. Early termination required a complete IT migration.
- Massive Data Migration – Doubling the IT environment meant replicating hundreds of terabytes of critical data with minimal disruption.
- Operational Continuity – Remote site backups and business-critical Oracle Hyperion processes required reliable, automated management without expanding the IT team.
The company needed a partner who could execute complex IT migration, automate critical processes, and enable rapid growth.
The Solution: Fast, Secure Migration with Commvault and Meridian IT
Utilizing Commvault Live Sync, Meridian IT replicated the acquisition’s IT environment to the new data center infrastructure incrementally during its usual backup processes. Meridian IT moved 215 TB of data during an eight-hour outage window, with less than 1 TB, or under three percent, of the environment requiring any manual intervention. All legacy infrastructure was decommissioned in five weeks, six months ahead of schedule. The new subsidiary also faced an unexpected requirement: it lost access to weekly maintenance of its business-critical Oracle Hyperion landscape, previously handled by its former parent’s network operations center. Working with Commvault, Meridian IT built a custom workflow to manage these tasks automatically and notify the company upon successful completion.
The manufacturer engaged Meridian IT to provide a new backup process for 60 remote sites. Meridian IT managed shipment of the data seeding servers to its own data centers, copied over backup data, and returned each server within a two-day window. Overall, backup of the remote sites was completed in just 45 days.
The Results: Cost Savings, Growth, and New Capabilities
Meridian IT’s partnership delivered measurable business outcomes.
Results at a glance:
- Rapid Cost Reduction – Early TSA termination saved millions in monthly service fees.
- Accelerated Growth Strategy – Integration of the new subsidiary was fast-tracked, creating a roadmap for future acquisitions.
- Enhanced IT Capabilities Without Extra Staff – Automated processes for Hyperion maintenance and remote backups reduced business risk without increasing IT headcount.
- Future-Ready IT Environment – Adoption of the latest Commvault technology ensured scalable, resilient infrastructure for ongoing operations.
Together, these results positioned the manufacturer for continued growth, operational efficiency, and long-term IT resilience—turning a complex migration into a strategic advantage.
